Steroid Injection for CEO Tendinopathy
We think that elbow common extensor origin (CEO) tendinopathy is best treated by appropriate load rehabilitation and pain relief.
We will perform an ultrasound guided steroid injection for pain relief when someone cannot sleep through the night or has a job that they need to do. Otherwise we do not think it is appropriate to do them. So far this year we have performed 348 ultrasound guided steroid injections, none were for elbow CEO tendons.
The evidence shows that patients who have had a steroid injection for common extensor origin tendinopathy at 6 months follow-up the pain is back and is usually worse than at pre-steroid levels.
